Our story · Since 2021

It started with a potato. And a little experimentation.

Game of Heat began during a family gathering. I was hosting some family members and decided to make potatoes with a sauce for dipping. I found a recipe for inspiration, but I couldn't resist giving it my own twist. Being the spice master that I am, I started experimenting with different spice combinations until I found a blend that worked beautifully.

The sauce was a hit. My family loved it, asked to take some home, and suggested that if I ever packaged it for sale, they'd be among the first to buy it. What began as a simple kitchen experiment suddenly felt like it could become something more.

I went into research mode and discovered an opportunity for flavoured sauces that offered more than just heat. With my background in design, I created the brand identity and began turning that kitchen experiment into a business. That's how Game of Heat took shape in 2021.

Since then, we've kept learning, experimenting and perfecting our sauces. The flavours have grown, but the idea remains the same: bring sweetness, spice and personality to the food people love sharing. We're still growing, one jar at a time, and we're glad you're part of the journey.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole tilapia, cleaned and scaled (about 700–900 g)
  • 1 tsp garlic, crushed
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp lemon or lime juice, divided
  • 3 tbsp cornflour, for a light coating
  • Oil, for frying
  • 5 tbsp Game of Heat Sweet Pineapple Chilli
  • Fresh kachumbari and lemon wedges, to serve

Method

  1. Pat the fish completely dry. Make 3 shallow diagonal cuts on each side so it cooks evenly.
  2. Season inside and out with garlic, paprika, salt, black pepper and 1 tablespoon of the lemon or lime juice. Rest for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Dust the fish lightly with cornflour, shaking off any excess. Heat enough oil in a wide pan for shallow-frying.
  4. Fry over medium heat, turning carefully once, until the skin is crisp and the thickest part of the flesh reaches 63°C. Transfer to a rack or paper towel to drain.
  5. Warm the Sweet Pineapple Chilli gently with the remaining lemon or lime juice for 30–60 seconds. Do not boil it or let the sugars burn.
  6. Spoon or brush the glaze over the fish just before serving. Finish with lemon wedges and fresh kachumbari.
